Sticky Sweet – yet healthy – Banana Oats Smoothie

super healthy low calorie oat and banana smoothie

I am that sort of person who needs their daily routine – food wise. So whenever I travel, I lack the routine and tend to eat too much, and sadly mainly trashy food. Two weeks ago I was scheduled for a business trip to Frankfurt and the night before I browsed through “my feed” on Bloglovin. I stumbled over a deliciously looking picture of Amandas snickerdoodle overnight oatmeal smoothie from Running with Spoons.

Making healthy breakfast choices

The description sounded delicious, too and – best of all – it said it will keep me satisfied for hours as it is full of plant-based protein and fiber.

Right into the kitchen I went

…to realize that I didn’t have – yet again!!! – all the ingredients at hand. *Do you notice a pattern here? I do!* But as I am a trained hobby chef gone brave kitchen hero I checked my cupboards and went on with my mission for a healthy breakfast for tomorrows trip to Frankfurt.

Ingredients

Here is to experiments!

  • 1/2 banana
  •  1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter
  • 1 teaspoon maple sirup
  • 1 cup unsweetened vanilla oat milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

A tea towel always comes in handy when working in the kitchen. Why not DIY a Beautiful Hand Stamped Dish Cloth for yourself or as a gift idea for friends & family?

I put it all into my mixer and gave it a good blend right away (in comparison to Amanda, who did the blending part after a night in the fridge). I stored it in a tupperware bottle in my fridge over night. See? Easy, peasy! Honestly, the hardest thing was to think of it in the morning and not forget it in the fridge, as I did plenty of times before *add massive eye roll here, please!*. Guess what? To manage this task, I wrote myself a sticky note and stuck it to the door. I figured this will give my head some peace, right? One thing less to think about in the morning when I am merely functioning and stumbling around my apartment like some character from The Walking Dead. And hooray – it worked!

I estimate the amount of calories in this smoothie around 350 kcal. So, for you body conscious peeps out there, it’s good for a breakfast on any given day or a snack on one of THOSE days where you need all the love you can get (or give yourself) and an extra sticky sweet indulgences to make it through the day.

Enjoy!
